An Artist Life.

Step inside my life as an artist with snippets of the inside of my creative space which is a tapestry woven from memories, inspiration, creative chaos, and the history of my life.

I like many others are drawn to the creative spaces of artists, from the dedicated studio space if you are fortunate to have one to where they live and what they surround themselves with. When the first lockdown of the 2020 pandemic began I found myself outed from my studio as my husband commandeered the space and found myself at one end of the kitchen, a handy place where I was on hand to feed the troops, and then turn intermittently to painting. At this end of the kitchen wedged between a huge larder fridge and the equally large range I had a south facing window that let in lots of light and where I set up at my antique irish pine trestle table. Towards the end of the pandemic I invested in a twin mast Mabef easel which is a monstrous piece of equipment but to me a normal much needed set up, doesn’t everyone have a 7ft high 4ft wide easel in their kitchen?

From the walls to every surface display inspirations—framed sketches and paintings from other artists, intertwined with the artist's own works, creating a visual narrative of growth and exploration. These pieces serve not only as decoration but as a constant reminder of the artist’s journey and the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. Theres a saying “surround yourself with what you love’, and Ive always done that from as young as I can remember. To other people its clutter but to me its home.

The work and materials needed as a practising artist is an organized chaos that has spilt over into every nook and cranny of the house: antique fabric and embroidery threads for textile creations, artist pads of all types for different projects, canvasses and boards, as well as old and new frames, and the copious collection of varying colours of oil paint tubes. Here, creativity flows freely, but discipline is equally present—I can be in this space from anywhere between 4 to 5am onwards set for focused work as I have always been an early riser, always up before the dawn chorus and daybreak.

Living at the foot of the Berwyn mountains in North Wales we are blessed to walk out of our property and straight up into the solitude of the most beautiful countryside with views over to Snowdonia. I have mused over the possibility of renting a space where my work would reach more people but this would not only come at a monetary cost but also a time cost with the commute and a cost to the solitude and quietness without distraction.
So this is my solution. For you to virtually visit and peruse and hopefully take something of interest away, whether that be inspiration, a feeling or just a thought. This way you connect with me and my work here and I connect with you. Enjoy x
